GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

The individual in this role will support our operations by working with patients and managing front-office tasks related to patient information. The Medical Assistant is responsible for initial patient greeting and general assisting of medical support in the center. This person will also assist with front-office tasks including managing patient files, schedules, insurance, billing tasks, and any other duties deemed necessary for facility operations by the manager. This individual provides safe, effective, and compassionate care that is consistent with the State, Federal and Company guidelines, Company policies and procedures, and within his/her scope of practice.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Greet patients and check them in for their service
  • Performs a variety of patient care activities rendering quality patients in accordance with standards of practice.
  • Assist in obtaining records required for the patient’s chart
  • Schedules new and existing patients
  • Assist the center nurses with treatment as needed
  • Orders and manages supplies under the direction of manager
  • Stock medication delivery and record accordingly
  • Assist in the preparation for patient care activities under supervision of supervising nurse
  • Obtain vitals and update patient chart information
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills, reporting patient issues as needed throughout the treatment day.
  • Follow company policies and CDC guidelines for infection control.
  • Clean the treatment areas, (includes chair, equipment, etc.) with the approved facility disinfectant.
  • Collect, prepare, and submit ordered patient lab specimens as directed.
  • Stock supply carts/cabinets with the supplies necessary to complete the day’s treatments.

SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Immediately report any unsafe condition to the Clinic Manager
  • Assist with proper handling and storage of hazardous materials.
  • Perform all duties in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Participate in emergency evacuation procedures in the event of fire or disaster
  • Maintain confidentiality of all company and patient records. Adhere to HIPPA.
  • Comply with all Company established policies and procedures at all times.
  • Participate in all required meetings including staff, CQI, and educational meetings.
  • Request assistance or advice from supervisor as needed.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Medical Assistant Certification, required.
  • CPR/BLS, required.
  • Clinical experience, minimum 6 months, required.
  • Must have demonstrated record of and commitment to safety.
  • Must possess outstanding communication and interpersonal skills with ability to communicate professionally and effectively with other staff members, patients and physicians.
  • Must possess computer skills for electronic recordkeeping.
  • Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts (medical equipment and machinery). The employees may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds (lifting patients, etc.), includes ability to carry and transport up to 50 pounds up to 60 feet. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color differentiation, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk and talk, hear and smell.

Requires excellent visual acuity and manual dexterity. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. He/she is frequently required to sit; stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, or crawl.

The employee may be required to use safety equipment, PPE (personal protective equipment) that may include but not be limited to face shield or goggles, non-slip shoes, gloves, mask, and other protective garments and equipment.
